phantasmagoria (2020)

Phantasmagoria is a feminist multi-channel video and sound installation combining high fashion to the world of camp horror film.

It explores the gendered experience of fear in culture, in which the female body is still widely considered as a common property. We are particularly interested in the feminine authorship of violence and how it presents itself in cultural narratives and western storytelling traditions. We are investigating the polarized dualism of gaze and objectification by using the imagery of Italian camp horror cinema. At the very core of our work are the themes surrounding femaleness and its representations in relation to the untold shame and taboos traditionally connected to women and the feminine. How does the body, boundaries, space and mind form a visual narrative? How does unconscious fear determine one’s actions?

Phantasmagoria was installed in Kallio Stage theatre space and exhibition was taking place in June 2020.

The work was also a part of OMVF musick video festival's art exhibition, Dark Matter in August 2020.

THE GRACIOUS ONES (2020)

The Gracious Ones is a poetic short film inspired by Italo Western genre film and high fashion aesthetics. It follows three main protagonists on their symbolic journey towards feminine strength, self acceptance and togetherness.

The film explores the concepts of fear and being fierce. What it is to be brave in this world? What kind of heroines, empowering narratives and their representation could there be, if we try and let go from the old gender stereotypes and expectations of the film industry and our culture?

The Gracious Ones was part of the Fears or Fierce? feministic horror house exhibition in August 2020 that took place in Oksasenkatu 11, Helsinki.
